Aluminum alloy processing methods and standards

Aluminum alloy is a strengthening material with advantages such as lightweight, high strength, good thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance. Therefore, it is widely used in fields such as aerospace, automotive manufacturing, architecture, electronics, and home appliances. Dalian Automation Processing Factory will introduce the processing methods and related standards of aluminum alloys.


1、 Aluminum alloy processing methods


1. Casting


Casting is one of the important methods for aluminum alloy processing, usually divided into two types: pressure casting and gravity casting. Pressure casting includes die-casting, hot chamber die-casting, low-pressure casting, and injection casting, which can produce aluminum alloy parts with complex shapes and high precision. Gravity casting mainly includes sand mold casting, permanent mold casting, and weight loss casting, and is suitable for producing large volume and simple structural aluminum alloy parts.


2. Squeeze


Extrusion is a processing method of extruding aluminum alloy ingots into shape through molds, mainly used in the production of long strips, angle shaped, tubular, shaped pipes, and shaped materials. Extrusion has the advantages of high production efficiency, high precision, pollution-free, and material saving, making it suitable for mass production.


3. Winding


Winding is a processing method of winding aluminum alloy wires into circular, flat, square, hexagonal, or irregular shapes through a winding machine. Winding has the advantages of high accuracy, low cost, and no damage, making it suitable for producing a small number and multiple varieties of aluminum alloy wires.


4. Cold stamping


Cold stamping is a processing method that uses molds to punch and shear aluminum alloy sheets or strips into shape in a cold state. Cold stamping has the advantages of high precision, stable size, good surface quality, and high production efficiency, making it suitable for producing large quantities and high-precision aluminum alloy parts.


5. Heat treatment


Heat treatment refers to heating and cooling aluminum alloy parts under specific heat treatment process conditions to achieve certain physical and mechanical properties. Heat treatment includes processes such as annealing, aging, solid solution, and quenching, which can improve the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and processability of aluminum alloys.


2、 Aluminum alloy processing standards


1. GB/T 3190-2017 "Chemical Composition and Shape and Dimensional Deviations of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys"


This standard specifies the chemical composition, shape, dimensional deviation requirements, and inspection methods of aluminum and aluminum alloys, and is applicable to aluminum and aluminum alloy materials, castings, and forgings.


2. GB/T 3199-2018 "Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Castings"


This standard specifies the materials, chemical composition, mechanical properties, casting methods, inspection, and marking of aluminum and aluminum alloy castings, and is applicable to enterprises producing aluminum and aluminum alloy castings such as pressure casting, sand casting, permanent mold casting, and weight loss casting.


3. GB/T 3880.1-2012 "Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Plate, Strip, and Foil - Part 1: General Specification"


This standard specifies the materials, chemical composition, mechanical properties, surface quality, and inspection of aluminum and aluminum alloy plates, strips, and foils, and is applicable to enterprises producing aluminum and aluminum alloy plates, strips, foils, and other products.
